Another Teen Book to Movie!

Looks like another one of our favourite teen books will be making it's way to the big screen. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is the set to open May 2017. The book was so heartwarming, looks like the movie will be too, check it out! BTW, see if you can recognize the main character!?

We went to A.R. McNeill Secondary

Look where we were on Friday!
This is our third school visit this year and it was so much fun!

Here’s a video of Cindy in action (she’s talking about the amazing book The Leaving by Tara Altebrando).

(You might have to turn up the sound to hear her better)

Visiting the high schools in Richmond to do our booktalk presentation is our favourite program we do during the school year. We talk about the new teen books that are getting a lot of buzz right now, show some awesome book trailers and bring boxes of books for the students to sign out. If you want us to come to your school, email us at BHKidsPlace@yourlibrary.ca

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Who liked Cinder and The Lunar Chronicles? Well, your favourite author is back at it again! Heartless by Marissa Meyer is entrancing from the very beginning! Catherine lives in Wonderland, the land of...wonders. She wants to be a baker, not a queen, so when the King proposes, she is not exactly the happiest pumpkin in the garden (a plus point to reading the book: you will understand the previous joke)! Then, in a sudden whirlwind, she meets Jest, the new court joker who captivates her. Is their romance meant to be?

Well, you will have to find out, won't you? I never realized this, but this book can be viewed as the prequel to the life of the Red Queen. This basically creates a reasonable explanation for the way she ended up, mad and incorrigible. Marissa Meyer definitely outdid herself in this magical book! Her imaginative writing method pulled me into the plot and it felt like I was experiencing everything going on in the book. I felt all of Catherine's emotions and I could imagine all the events happening. I really enjoyed Heartless

Additionally, Heartless can not only be viewed as a fantasy, romance and adventure genre, but also has a bit of a mysterious edge, which makes it a very well-rounded story that will appeal to all readers! This book is so out of this world, you could never see it coming! Even though, technically, you know the ending, everything begins to make sense at the end when the puzzle is solved. Instead of talking in rhymes and riddles, I'm going to suggest you immediately go and read this book!

Need something to do on a snow day?

Isn't all this snow crazy?!

I don't know the last time we got this much snow! I don't know about you, but the snow is fun for a day or two, but then I start to feel antsy and start looking for things to read.

Guess what? RPL not only has some great books, but we also have:
eBooks
eMagazings
eAudiobooks
Streaming video and music

If you can't leave the house because of all the snow, all you have to do is go to the library website and get all you need there :)

Which new books are you excited about?

There are going to be some great bookscoming out in 2017! Which ones are you excited about?

Goodreads has a list of the most anticipated YA Novels of 2017 and here are the top 5:

"Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places." Sarah J. Mass

This is the second book of The Dark Artifices series and is the sequel to Clare's Lady Midnight.

"Emma Carstairs has finally avenged her parents. She thought she’d be at peace. But she is anything but calm. Torn between her desire for her parabatai Julian and her desire to protect him from the brutal consequences of parabatai relationships, she has begun dating his brother, Mark. But Mark has spent the past five years trapped in Faerie; can he ever truly be a Shadowhunter again?" Cassandra Clare

Following the success of Roth's Divergent series, Carve the Mark is a different kind of story.

"On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?" Carve the Mark

Red Queen was a huge hit!! Everyone wanted to read it and no one could put it down. We think King's Cage, the third book in the series, is going to be just as popular.

"Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner." King's Cage

This is the second book in the triology and it is getting major buzz.

"When an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed." Windwitch
