The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

In this infamous coming of age novel, we follow the social differences between two gangs with different social statuses. The two rival gangs in this story are the Greaser and the Socs. The greasers are your rough and tough street gang who live off the brotherhood of each other, while the Socs are filthy rich and dislike anybody in a lower social class than them. We get to see the story through the perspective of Ponyboy, a greaser who deep down has a heart against violence. The story follows the two gangs and allows you to explore the perspectives of different characters and how their perspectives shape the message of the story.
I personally loved this book because it had such a good message and it brought you deeper into the times where labeling based on your social class was very well known. It showed how there could be multiple sides to a person and their personality.
